Therapy Approach & Modalities

As a therapist, I describe myself as a humanistic and insight oriented therapist, focused on helping people understand themselves, heal, and find the strength to make positive change. I use a blend of different therapeutic modalities depending on needs, preferences, and goals. I appreciate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (or “ACT”) to focus on increasing psychological flexibility, connect with values for a more meaningful life, and reduce avoidance. I find Narrative Therapy helpful in exploring narratives about self and others, how we conceptualize and internalize experiences, and to find power in rewriting our story. Attachment Theory is also beneficial to explore emotions and behaviors related to relationships. I am happy to discuss these further in sessions.

I believe in creating a safe, curious, and non-judgmental space for your therapeutic journey.  We will explore your hopes and goals, identify thinking patterns, beliefs, behaviors, or narratives that no longer serve you. We will identify new ways to move through the world that align with your goals. This journey includes exploration of strengths, skills, strategies, supports, along with providing you with knowledge about mental health, strategies and tools for progress.

Lastly, you get out of therapy what you put into it. Our time in sessions will be most helpful to you if you come with themes, questions, or experiences to discuss. Your time outside of sessions is about reflection, applying new knowledge and trying out new skills.

Expertise

General Experiences

I support individuals with a wide range of experiences and identities such as anxiety, depression, self-worth & confidence challenges, college/higher education, bipolar disorder, LGBTQIA+, and other therapists or mental health professionals. As a multicultural person myself, I have also supported others with their experiences of being multicultural and navigating cultural challenges.

Neurodiversity & ADHD

I specialize in supporting people with Neurodiversity, frequently with adult/late diagnosis individuals or questioning individuals. Common challenges for people with ADHD include productivity, motivation, initiating & completing tasks, low self-esteem (including narratives about being “lazy”, “unmotivated”, or “procrastinators”), concentration, social challenges, emotional dysregulation, sensory overload, rejection sensitivity, and other aspects of executive functioning. I also support people who identify or are exploring AuDHD. Neurodiversity is complex and impacts every area of life!

Neurodiverse brains work, think, and interact with the world differently. My approach includes helping individuals understand themselves and their brain better and rebuild their self-esteem and confidence. We identify strengths and strategies to help you accomplish your goals and bridge the gap between your intentions and actions. This journey also consists of coping with the emotional impact of living in a world designed by and for neurotypicals when you are neurodiverse.

NOTE: I do not offer assessments for ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
